19th Lesson: Being chased isn't the only way to get faster.

Is the best way to learn to be led? To be forced?

Maybe. Maybe not.

You could be chased around a track at gunpoint, and you would probably run pretty fast.

But is it the best way to get faster? Or would motivating yourself, and having passion for it be a better way to improve?

Getting an education and attending school are not the same thing. It doesn't need to end when you stop going into a building that is dedicated to it if you don't want it to.

-When a teacher makes you do the work are you really learning in the best way?

-When a coach forces you to practice are you really improving in the best way?

-When a trainer makes you workout is that teaching you how to maintain a level of fitness?

-When your boss forces high numbers and demands on you does it make you want to sell?

There's so much that we do because we have to at the time, or because someone is telling us to.

But that doesn't mean it's the best way to learn. That doesn't mean it's the most effective way to grow and improve.

If you're getting better right now because somebody is chasing you around the track, because your being dragged, or because someone is motivating you....

Don't just stop the idea of improving in it's tracks. Don't give up on running.

Instead find the thing that wants to just put on your shoes and run.
