Learning isn't performance and performance isn't learning.
If you're learning at your best, you can perform better. But there are very different components to both and it cannot be assumed that strong performers are strong learners, or the reverse.
If you want to give yourself a leg up when it comes to crunch time, if you wan't to avoid plateaus and keep moving up, work on the learning part first. If you wan't to make more money, think about how well the people in your company learn.
There are exceptions, though generally short term in nature, but there are far more examples of poor learning leading to poor performance than there are of the opposite:

The athlete who was terrified of making mistakes who never achieved their goals.
The student who excelled through high school but hits college and can't succeed near their potential.
The business that has one great idea, but then never creates or performs that way again.
Learning is not performance and performance is not learning.
But the moment we forget about learning and focus on performance, we are are accepting that our performance is temporary, it is unimportant, and it will never truly be what it could have been.
